SASS and Sport

Whether its smashing a spin class, running that extra mile or a sweaty work out, intense exercise can leave women prone to chaffing and soreness, especially around the intimate area.

How does chafing happen?

Chafing happens when skin rubs against either clothing or more skin and can leave you feeling sore. If the skin has been rubbing, sweat will further add to irritation as the skin becomes wet and the chafing becomes worse. To add to this, sweat contains salt, which can cause further soreness and stinging. It can occur around the thighs, underarms, nipples and vagina.

What can you do to prevent chafing?

  • Chamois creams can provide lubrication and prevent friction and chafing. While there are many chamois creams to choose from, if you are using one on the vaginal area go for a pH balanced product to prevent bacterial imbalances and further irritation.
  • Being dehydrated can cause sweat to crystalize on the skin, adding to irritation. Staying hydrated with plenty of water before and during working out allows the body to sweat properly and prevent soreness.
  • Finding the right workout gear helps to stop fabric rubbing against the skin. Pants and shorts should be fitted but not too tight and made of synthetic materials rather than cotton as they are less likely to stay damp with sweat.

For protection against chafing during exercise try SASS Sportive Intimate Protection Barrier Cream, specially designed to maintain your vaginal pH, provide ultra hydration and reduce skin friction.

For relief from soreness after exercise, SASS Sportive Recovery Serum has been created to cool and moisturize post workout skin, whilst also providing antimicrobial protection against skin imbalances.
