SASS AND HAIR REMOVAL

While the majority of women opt to remove hair from their bikini line, no matter which removal method you go for, ingrown hairs are always a risk. Just under 60% of women in the UK suffer from ingrown hairs yet over 50% don’t know how to avoid them.

What is an ingrown hair?

  • An ingrown hair happens when a hair has not been able to pierce its way through the skin and has curled itself back around, growing inwards.

Most common causes of ingrown hairs:

  • A build up of dead skin cells in the pore, meaning the hair is unable to grow through.
  • Shaving close to the skin, especially with a blunt razor.

How to prevent ingrown hairs:

  • It is really important to exfoliate, as this ensures there is no build up of dead skin, which is what prevents the hair growing through. It is a good idea to exfoliate the skin before any kind of hair removal.
  • Salicylic acid based products are great for exfoliation on the bikini line as they don’t contain micro beads, so are non-irritant whilst also soothing.
  • If shaving, use a sharp razor on wet skin, preferably with a pH balanced shave gel to prevent irritation.
